Living the #VANLIFE in my Volkswagen Vanagon named Marty

Earlier this year, I purchased a 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon pop top camper van in Toronto, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with this vehicle, whom I’ve lovingly named “Marty” after former President Martin VAN Buren. I’ve already driven Marty cross country, and crisscrossed from Michigan to New York to California. It’s been a total blast!

I have been documenting my roadtrips on Instagram, and even got the Michigan state “VANLIFE” license plate. I was even approached by a television development company about possibly producing a web series about “Marty & Me” for a new online streaming channel.

I’m not a full time van dweller, but since I am only filming Dr. Pol in Michigan about half the year, I have lots of time to travel the country, and there’s no better way to see the sites than in a house on wheels.

Future plans include: many more cross country roadtrips, hitting all the Canadian provinces, Burning Man, National Parks…and eventually – driving THE PAN AMERICAN HIGHWAY from Alaska all the way down to Cape Horn, Argentina! (And oh yeah…and it seats 7 passengers and sleeps 4 — you’re all invited to join for the adventures.)

Why do I love the #VANLIFE? It’s the freedom. The ability to go to sleep and wake up in a new place every day. Home is where you park it.

Check out my Instagram feed (and maybe search the term #vanlife) to follow my adventures.
